What can I do to make a difference?
I am going to make a list on this page of things that you can do to make a difference as I think of them and in no particular order. Of course you must know a little about hemp to start with, so if you don't know much the best thing that you can read is the Vote Hemp article Hemp Is Hip. It is well worth your time to read it.
The most important thing you can do right now is to Write Congress and ask your elected representative to support the "Industrial Hemp Farming Act of 2005" (H.R. 3037). Yes, a hemp bill has been introduced in Congress! You should also consider downloading, printing and mailing your Congressman a copy of the Congressional Research Service report Hemp as an Agricultural Commodity. The Congressional Research Service is one of the few sources of unbiased information available to Congress.
The second most important thing you can do is to Contribute to Vote Hemp. They need your support for the industries' legal effort. If you are in the hemp industry or are a consumer your help is needed. Please send Vote Hemp a check or donate online, even if all you have to give is $5.00.
I wrote a new What Can I Do? page for Vote Hemp. There is a long list of things that you can do there. I came up with the EASY (Educate, Advocate, Support, Youth) concept because it is easy to make things better. Please take a read of the What Can I Do? and see what you think.
When you go grocery shopping, or any kind of shopping at all, you almost never hear the question of the last decade "paper or plastic?" They almost always give you plastic now. Instead you should consider getting a hemp Reusable Bag. Besides saving you money it will give you another excuse to talk about hemp.
Next time you go to your favorite natural foods retailer ask the buyer to stock your favorite hemp foods. Nutiva has a handy Product Request Sheet that you can fill out, print and take to the buyer. They should be happy to special order items for you and customer requests for new items are very powerful, especially if you and your friends buy the products on a regular basis. Special order a case of something and give them as gifts!
You should consider getting a copy Hemp and the Rule of Law and have a hemp party. Order some copies of Hemp is Hip, Hot & Happening from the Hemp Industries Association, print some educational hemp PDFs you can download from us here at IndustrialHemp.net, and make some hemp smoothies and hemp brownies and you and your friends are set for a great educational experience.
The Hemp and the Rule of Law DVD is now available as a gift for a donation to Vote Hemp or direct from the film maker at Tin Roof Video. Here is a two minute video short in Real Player format. It is a wonderful documentary and well worth seeing and sharing.
Film maker Kevin Balling has also agreed to grant copyright permission for the documentary to be shown on local cable access TV. Please email Kevin at Tin Roof Video for details!
Learn how to make hemp jewelry (necklaces, bracelets, anklets, etc) and teach others how to make them at a class at your school, public library, or youth club. You can get hemp twine and most of the supplies that you will need at Michaels or even Wal-Mart. It is very easy to learn how! The Klutz book below Hemp Bracelets by Anne Akers Johnson is a great beginners kit with everything that you need and the hemp jewelry kits at the Global Hemp Store are an even less expensive way to learn the basics. My kids learned how to make all the things that they wanted when they received the Butterfly Hemp Jewelry Kit from their Grandfather last Christmas. The kits have everything that you need and include instructions on the back of the card. Once you learn the basics you can get Hemp Masters: Ancient Hippie Secrets for Knotting Hip Hemp Jewelry by Max Lunger and/or Making Beautiful Hemp & Bead Jewelry by Mickey Baskett to expand your knowledge. These books also make a great reference for teaching a class. This is great family fun that can keep your kids occupied for hours!
